Memorial Day marks the beginning of the beach season, and the return of the lifeguards. As the days get longer and warmer, we would like to remind everyone to be respectful of other beach and park users. Dogs are not allowed on the beach outside of the off-leash area, and keep them on the leash when they are on the grass. Keeping the beach clean is always a daily task, but particularly during the beach season. Mother nature sends us gifts of beer cans and plastic bags with every tide, as well as the gifts left by other beach users. We need EVERYONE to pitch in and help keep the dog beach safe and clean. Bring a couple extra bags with you every trip and spend a few minutes picking up trash and any stray dog waste in and around the dog beach. Be sure to remind others that they must not only clean up after their dogs EVERY time, but they also have to carry it to the trash cans themselves. NEVER leave a poo bag laying on the ground, rock wall, or hanging from the fence. Put it in the trash right away. It's too easy to forget about it and walk away. Whether you're a daily, weekend, or only occasional beach user, the best way you can show your appreciation of our wonderful little piece of the lake is to do you part and help clean up! We've added a couple plastic bag dispensers on the fence by the entrance. We need help keeping them stocked with bags. If you have some extra bags when you leave the beach, why not put them in the dispenser on your way out? Just push them through the hole in the top. If the dispensers work well, we'll add a few more on the other end of the fence. MonDog is always looking for volunteers to help us out. If you are interested, or want to find out more about MonDog, our next regular meeting is Thursday, June 2nd, at 7:30 to 8:30 pm, at the Margate Field House, 4900 Marine Dr. All are welcome, and there is free parking behind the building.
